LCA Publications GuideLines

(Note that ICA is now LCA, and icawww was renamed to lcawww, but it refers to the same server)

One of the most important part of our site is the "Publications" section. This section is important for LCA and your visibility.

Previously, all documents were placed in arbitrary locations, and were offen destroyed when persons was cleaning their accounts when leaving the Institute.

For this reason, we have defined a new way of publishing these documents:

1) For technical reports

1. Ask Peter Bruehlmeier for a report number, providing the following informations:

2. Include the above number in your title page.

3. Send the report file itself (preferably in Acrobat .pdf format) to Peter Bruehlmeier.

2) For conference, journal and magazine publications

We will now centralize all LCA WEB published papers (journal and magazine) to this location :

http://lcawww.epfl.ch/Publications

The process to publish the files is:

- Generate the PDF file and the PS file corresponding to your paper. Name your files using the following convention:

firstauthornameOtherinitialsYearId.pdf

- Put your files in your section (i.e. the directory of the first author on lcawww.epfl.ch, if this section doesn't exist, just create it)

Use an SSH SFTP client to connect to lcawww.epfl.ch, then choose the "Publications" zone.

- Record the entry corresponding to your document on the web site, "Private part", "Publications" section. When copied the paper in /Publications/Your_Username, please write the pointing URL in the following format :

/Publications/Your_Username/Paper_Name.pdf (or .ps)

If you REALLY have to link to another WEB server (Should NOT be done !!), write the complete URL :

http://servername.ext.ext/Path_Name/Document_Name.ext

If you follow these instructions, your papers will be visible from anywhere.

Example:

Given a paper written by Alex Martin (LCA assistant) as first author and Joe Valentin & Nicole Rose as second author in 2001 In:

/Publications/martin/   (create it if not exists)

File names:

You'll be able to create the directory, add the file(s) and modify it.

Access from In / Outside EPFL:

- Use an SSH SFTP client to connect to lcawww.epfl.ch, then choose the "Publications" zone. ( You can download a Windows client from the local server at http://lcawww.epfl.ch/ICAprivate/SSHClient  PLEASE RESPECT THE LICENCES LEVELS )

Because of the EPFL Firewall, it is not possible to directly map a drive from outside or to use FTP to access the WEB Folders.
